Tensor Ensemble Learning google
In big data applications, classical ensemble learning is typically infeasible on the raw input data and dimensionality reduction techniques are necessary. To this end, novel framework that generalises classic flat-view ensemble learning to multidimensional tensor-valued data is introduced. This is achieved by virtue of tensor decompositions, whereby the proposed method, referred to as tensor ensemble learning (TEL), decomposes every input data sample into multiple factors which allows for a flexibility in the choice of multiple learning algorithms in order to improve test performance. The TEL framework is shown to naturally compress multidimensional data in order to take advantage of the inherent multi-way data structure and exploit the benefit of ensemble learning. The proposed framework is verified through the application of Higher Order Singular Value Decomposition (HOSVD) to the ETH-80 dataset and is shown to outperform the classical ensemble learning approach of bootstrap aggregating. …

Minimal Achievable Sufficient Statistic (MASS) google
We introduce Minimal Achievable Sufficient Statistic (MASS) Learning, a training method for machine learning models that attempts to produce minimal sufficient statistics with respect to a class of functions (e.g. deep networks) being optimized over. In deriving MASS Learning, we also introduce Conserved Differential Information (CDI), an information-theoretic quantity that – unlike standard mutual information – can be usefully applied to deterministically-dependent continuous random variables like the input and output of a deep network. In a series of experiments, we show that deep networks trained with MASS Learning achieve competitive performance on supervised learning, regularization, and uncertainty quantification benchmarks. …

Deep Attention GAN (DA-GAN) google
Unsupervised image translation, which aims in translating two independent sets of images, is challenging in discovering the correct correspondences without paired data. Existing works build upon Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) such that the distribution of the translated images are indistinguishable from the distribution of the target set. However, such set-level constraints cannot learn the instance-level correspondences (e.g. aligned semantic parts in object configuration task). This limitation often results in false positives (e.g. geometric or semantic artifacts), and further leads to mode collapse problem. To address the above issues, we propose a novel framework for instance-level image translation by Deep Attention GAN (DA-GAN). Such a design enables DA-GAN to decompose the task of translating samples from two sets into translating instances in a highly-structured latent space. Specifically, we jointly learn a deep attention encoder, and the instancelevel correspondences could be consequently discovered through attending on the learned instance pairs. Therefore, the constraints could be exploited on both set-level and instance-level. Comparisons against several state-ofthe- arts demonstrate the superiority of our approach, and the broad application capability, e.g, pose morphing, data augmentation, etc., pushes the margin of domain translation problem. …

Fuzzy SAINTETIQ google
Diversification of DB applications highlighted the limitations of relational database management system (RDBMS) particularly on the modeling plan. In fact, in the real world, we are increasingly faced with the situation where applications need to handle imprecise data and to offer a flexible querying to their users. Several theoretical solutions have been proposed. However, the impact of this work in practice remained negligible with the exception of a few research prototypes based on the formal model GEFRED. In this chapter, the authors propose a new approach for exploitation of fuzzy relational databases (FRDB) described by the model GEFRED. This approach consists of 1) a new technique for extracting summary fuzzy data, Fuzzy SAINTETIQ, based on the classification of fuzzy data and formal concepts analysis; 2) an approach of assessing flexible queries in the context of FDB based on the set of fuzzy summaries generated by our fuzzy SAINTETIQ system; 3) an approach of repairing and substituting unanswered query. …
